ILLUMINATIONS FOR VINAYAKA CHATHURTHI

Vinayaka Chathurthi is everyone's favourite festival. Children love to buy the mud dolls of Ganesa for the pooja, and the colourful little umbrella that goes with it. Also popular are the concerts, many of them held at temples, during the festivals.
At our neighbourhood temple in Warren Road, I went to attend our guru Ganga Mani's concert - and saw these illuminations outside the small temple.

Right now, the city is subjected to power cuts lasting 90 minutes every day between 6 am and 6 pm. Each area has its own time for this - we welcome the day without electriciy at 6 am. It is restored at 7.30 am

Yeah right... And the roads around here all have pandal poles stuck in the middle, adding further confusions and chaos to an already chaotic traffic situation.... and of course every street corner has a pilyar/pilayar temple, and each now has to out do the other!!

Sorry, Raji, and then to add to our woes, we also have the velankani fest in full swing!...

As you can see appreciating the lights is not top of mind right now

Its one of those grit and bear weeks!!

Happy Vinayaka Cjathurthi!
All Glory to Him!
I miss the time when we would carry a tray to the potter's temporary business hub in the market, and bring back a freshly cast Ganesha home, complete with the paraphernalia- erukkam poo, cotton garland, umbrella...

The illuminations look very impressive. I look forward to the time when India hosts the Olympic Games. I'm sure the opening ceremony will be impressive! But when will that be, I wonder.

My favourite part is eating the kozhakattais! How I miss them - I don't even bother trying to make them here, I'm sure they'll be a disaster.
Kamini.

Flowergirl, this is the flip side . If you look up you see stars, if you look down.....

Swarna, I used to be intrigued by the 'poonal'!

Indrani, thanks.

Kat, thanks. EB announcement!!!!!

Remain connected, thanks for the encouraging words

Webradio, Merci beaucoop. C'etait tres jolie.

Rinkly Rimes,
Though I agree with you in wanting India to host the Olympics, I feel we have a long way to go....

Anonymous, Subs. how can any festival be completee without its own special dish? We made and ate the kozhakkattais.

Kamini, never say die. My first attempts were unmentionable, and my current ones not much better. :D
