FROM BEIJING WITH LOVE

The Beijing Olympics are over, and my journalist brother has just finished his stint with the ‘China Daily’ there. Here is an extract from what he wrote in a piece for the final edition. ‘Picture Perfect’ he calls it. It is word perfect, too

In the center of the 91,000-seater Bird's Nest, in the midst of Olympic competition and competitors all around her, in the middle of the pole vault final, it showed her taking a catnap, face covered, seemingly switched off from the rest of the world.

But this time it's not the usual cliche, but a tribute to her character, grit and confidence... A splendid article!!!

What an athelete! I am so glad, in the midst of packing and moving, I didn't miss that moment when she crossed 5.05m.
True meaning to 'Higher' in the motto of the Olympics

I think Yelena Isinbayeva got much less coverage than say Bolt or Phelps. That was bad. Nevertheless, her name will be etched in golden letters and future generations will keep revisiting her accomplishments.
